Creative Challenge | Shaken or Stirred?

It’s Friday. Shall we progress from Wednesday’s Shake It Up Challenge?

To create a signature cocktail or mocktail

If you’re creating your signature cocktail or mocktail from scratch, you’ll need to consider how the different flavour components such as sweet, sour, bitter, scented and spicy will combine and whether you’re creating a long, refreshing drink or a short, sharp shock.

The easiest way to create your own cocktail is to remix the classics. Put your spin on a traditional cocktail by swapping the ingredients for something similar. Substitute vodka with whiskey, use lemon juice instead of lime juice. Simple is often best and three or four ingredients are usually plenty.

Stuck for ideas?

Try our Lady Marmalade Cocktail

Lady Marmalade cocktail collage with ingredients and Marmalade Gin label

You’ll need 30ml Marmalade Gin, 15ml lemon juice, 15ml Grand Marnier and a dash of orange bitters.

Put all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a good quantity of ice.

Shake, shake, shake.

Strain into a glass.

If you don’t have any Slamseys Marmalade Gin (why not?) use a quality gin and add a little marmalade. Though, honestly the Marmalade Gin is much better.

Need more cocktail inspiration? Raspberry Gin Slush? Blackcurrant Cooler? Loads more cocktails.

If you have more time

Make an illustrated recipe card to keep for future reference.

Create more cocktails or mocktails!
